This lovely little house is located on the east side of the village, a few minute's walk from the main square. This property has recently been renovated in keeping with tradition.
There are entrances to the house; one through the kitchen/dining room from the terrace and one from the alley above into the bedroom. When you are using your car you will probably park it on the road below and access the house via overgrown old gardens, past old houses and amongst the cats and chickens. If you want to have a night out at at a taverna then you will appreciate the access via the alley which is still uphill but has no steps and is about 5 minutes from the village square.
This stone house is on two floors. The lower level has a pleasing living room/kitchen, which opens out onto the large terrace with a magnificent view to the sea. The upper floor has the inviting bedroom with fireplace and little wooden balcony. The bathroom with shower is on the lower level.
This lovely house sleeps 2-3 people.
All the stone houses we rent in Volissos have been visited by one of the staff and are highly recommended to true lovers of Greece, nature and the simple pleasures of life.
VOLISSOS
The village lies on the north west coast of the island of Chios, 40 km from the main town and airport.
Built on a hill nestling underneath a Genoese castle it looks south out across the blue waters of the Aegean. As you sit on your terrace enjoying the mountains slowly turning pink in the last rays of the sun, or as you wander around the village as it winds down from the castle, you quickly realize that Volissos is still very much a traditional village.
From the saddle maker to the bakery, the chickens in the winding streets to the locals returning from the fields on their donkeys, the village will slowly draw you into its peaceful and quiet lifestyle. The tranquility broken only by the occasional braying of a donkey or the hooting of an owl.
The village is 2 km from its little harbour and the nearest beaches of Lefkathia and Limnos. Just a little further away is the 6 km long Managros beach. Apart from these, whichever way you go up or down the coast there are numerous beaches to choose from, making it always easy to find a secluded spot to enjoy the crystal clear waters of the Aegean.
Volissos has quite a few tavernas to choose from either in the village or down by the sea offering a wide choice of delicious Greek food. Down at the harbour there are two cafe bars and a small place making greek souvlaki.
The village has two quite well stocked local shops, a butcher, a baker and even a candle maker. A green grocer comes around three times a week selling produce out of the back of his pickup though you can find fruit an vegetables at the local shops. There is also a Pharmacy, Post Office and Telephone Exchange.
You can also go on a wine tour at the nearby vineyard where ARIOUSIOS wine is produced. Ask the owners for more details. This wine was produced in ancient times and was also know to the Romans. It is now being produced again and you can taste it. Please ask for more details.
Volissos is not a tourist village, the majority of people returning in the summer grew up in the village. Even so you will find everything you need for your holiday.
