A charming traditional Greek 'Spitaki' in a quiet neighbourhood in Aegina Town.
Close to shops and just a short stroll from the beach.
This is a really lovely house in which you can enjoy a real Greek experience, far from the noisy tourist bars and apartments.
Although it is not a very big house, it will accommodate up to six people in three double bedrooms.
The property is accessed from the street through a pretty courtyard, which acts as an additional sitting room in the summer.
On the ground floor are two bedrooms, a living room (with two divan beds), the kitchen and a bathroom with shower.
External steps lead up to a balcony and a third bedroom with en-suite bathroom.
The courtyard acts as a natural hub for this house, and is a good place to gather for meals, and to plan the day's activities.
Inside the house has retained lots of original features, such as the floor tiles and traditional wooden shutters.
The bedrooms are air conditioned, and there is wireless broadband internet as well as a cable connection, and a washing machine. There is also a small televison and a DVD player.
The kitchen is well equippped, and a filter has been added to the water supply so that it is possible to drink the tap water.
As well as the air conditioning units there are fans to keep you cool, and for the colder months there is a wood burning stove and electric heaters.
This is a traditional village house that has not been modernised and has no central heating, double glazing etc.
Some may find it too basic, others will love the simplicity.
Beach and shops are two minutes away on foot.
The main town in Aegina is an attractive seaside town with low level neoclassical architecture and a relaxed, laid back feel.
The house is situated in a quiet neighbourhood, two streets back from the seafront, and is well placed to access shops, tavernas and the town beach.
Around the property are narrow streets where children play, and small low level 'spitakia' with jasmine and bougainvillea, and gardens planted with citrus trees. This is a 'real' neighbourhood, not a tourist trap!
A short stroll (less than 100 m) will take you to the nearest beach, which is sandy. From here you can walk along the sea front into the centre of town, past traditional wooden fishing boats and modern yachts.
The town is of a good size, and there are plenty of places to eat, and cafes at which to pass the time of day.
The streets are mostly narrow and some parts are pedestrianised, and it can be very pleasant to explore these back alleys.
Cars and bikes are available for hire if you wish to explore the rest of the island, with its wooded interior and great sandy beaches.
Aegina is close to Athens and easy to get to. Just a 30 minute ride on one of the frequent hydrofoils from Piraeus.

I normally do not complete feedback questionnaires, but in this case I feel that a couple of comments need to be made. 90% of all that I read was applicable to this delightful place. It was certainly located in a great location which could hardly be bettered: 5 stars. It took me almost all 8 days of my stay to find all the very useful items spread around the property that could be of use when on holiday here: 5 stars. However the attention to detail was lacking and a screwdriver would be useful to tighten lock plates etc, the shutters were not secure, nor some windows. The locks were very tricky for the unwary and resulted in two broken keys in two different locks; and yet locking each door proved little defence against possible forced entry: 1 Star only. Thankfully the one secure system was the outer key and entry to the property. - S. Aubury , UK
