Able to accommodate 6 adults and a baby (travel cot provided) Cuevas Jimenez has everything needed for a comfortable, relaxing holiday, including a family friendly pool and large outdoor terraced area, with stunning views over the Castril Valley.
The adventurous riding is targeted at those experienced riders who definately don't want a typical 'trekking' holiday, whereby you follow the horse in front all day.
Here, you will experience riding through rivers, pine forests, valley floors, with a few cliffs, goat tracks and wild terrain thrown in for good measure.
All of our horses are sure footed Andalucians or Andalucian cross horses, experienced in riding in this sort of terrain. Their favourite part is swimming in the river! We also offer for a small additional charge, a trip to the source of the Rio Castril, set in the high mountains above us. Start with a gentle ride along the valley floor, and up into Castril for lunch. Continue on along the lakeside with a swim, weather permitting.
Now comes the hard work for the horses - a gradual climb up into the mountains along tracks and trails for an overnight stay in a bunkhouse. After settling the horses for the night, relax and enjoy a meal ready cooked, or venture to the local restaurant which is within walking distance. The next morning, after a hearty cooked breakfast, the journey continues to the source of the rio, with views of waterfalls, befre starting the descent, and the journey homeward, stopping for lunch and refreshments along the way.
The tiny pueblo of Fuente Vera, where we are situated is a traditional whitewashed Spanish village with narrow streets and friendly people. If you are looking for a relaxing ‘get away from it all’ type of holiday, then this is for you.
The Castril Valley is set amongst the backdrop of the Sierras de Castril, Segura and Cazorla, surrounded by the National Parks of the region. There are three lakes in the vicinity, the closest being located in Castril itself.
The village of Castril de la Pena sits nestled low in the valley overlooked by the rock (la pena) and is a typical whitewashed Spanish village, complete with wrought iron balconies and mules walking through the narrow streets. Castril boasts small cobbled streets, a few shops, and several restaurants, cafes and bars which are highly recommended by us.
