A sympathetically renovated traditional Hydra house.
Built of stone some 200 years ago, the house originally belonged to a local fisherman, and it has been renovated to a high standard, keeping many original features intact.
Accommodation comprises two double bedrooms (one en-suite) and sofa / divan beds sleeping a further three people.
There are three sitting rooms and two terraces from which you can enjoy great views of the port and the island's interior.
The house is air conditioned and comes with a fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, dishwasher and wine cooler.
There are two bathrooms with showers.
Broadband Internet access is available and there is a flat screen TV, DVD player etc.
The house is an easy walk up from the port of Hydra. Most of the road is flat, sloping gently upwards, and there are a few steps to reach the house at the end.
Hydra is a jewel of an island, close to Athens but lost in time and with a deliciously slow and relaxed pace of life.
There are no cars on the island and donkeys are still used to carry loads.
Cats laze on the street corners and the cafes around the bustling harbour are a great place to sit and watch the world go by.
The town radiates up the hill from the port, with whitewashed houses crowded into narrow cobbled alleys, each with a tiled roof and shutters painted all colours under the sun!
Hydra is a paradise for walkers, since there is no other way to get around! There are plenty of coastal and mountain walks, and the determined can walk right over the top of the island through pine forests and down the other side to a deserted beach.
The beaches on Hydra are mostly pebbly, and there are many rocky areas to swim from.
The sea is deep and cool and very clear.
There is a watersports centre on one of the beaches, as well as a diving school, a glass-bottomed boat and sailing cruises.
Plenty of tavernas offer traditional Greek food, and there are many exclusive shops and boutiques.
The night life is lively, with cafes and bars open until the small hours.
Getting to Hydra is simple, with several hydrofoils arriving and departing every day from Athens.
The house is situated above the harbour, with relatively few steps to climb. Most of the route is up a straight shallow slope, with a few steps at the top end.
