This, I suppose, has to be called an hotel. Although it feels more like you have rented your own private villa which has been equipped for self catering.
The rooms are in seperate houses that snuggle around the pool like village houses snuggle around a pond. The whole has been laid out thoughtfully and with care for your comfort and your privacy. It is a delightful family run haven that will welcome you whole heartedly.
Each room, for your comfort, has a telephone with a direct line, television, view to sea, garden and pool, refrigerator, kitchenette, hair dryer, safe and of course air conditioning.
The house have all been decorated and maintained to a high standard and although you can claim all the privacy you desire you have availible a daily Cleaning Service, a breakfast buffet, reception, television lounge (you have a TV in your room too), snack bar, private parking, free Wi-Fi hotspot, fax, pool bar and a laundry service.
Oh and you will be transported free of charge from the ferry port.
Somewhere tucked between industrious Naxos, party-crazy Ios and historic Amorgos lie the Small Cyclades, a series of islands where the hectic life of large urban centers is left behind like a heavy ruck sack on a hot day.
Of these islands, Ano Koufonisi (Ano Koufonisi or Upper Koufonisi) is the smallest and yet the most populated. Closely surrounded by its deserted neighbors, there are few signs of an outside world that could intrude on life here. The nearby islands are all uninhabited and serve as the Koufonisiotes (Koufonisiotes or inhabitants of Koufonisi) backyard. The 'lower Koufonisi', the sister island a mere 200m southwest, was used for grazing, beekeeping and agriculture.
No words can truly illustrate the magic the visitor experiences from the very first moment they set foot on the Koufonisia islands.
The Aegean seas sun bathes the golden beaches and turquoise waters where the sea has sculpted the rocks into unique shapes and sea caves from whence the names of the islands are derived (Koufonisia - Hollow islands). Neighboring Keros captures the eye and the friendly, hospitable people make you feel as though you were part of one big happy group.
The Koufonisia have fanatic friends, whoever gets a taste of the extraordinary beauty never abandons them. In fact, at first, for many years the people who came to this island tried to hide the destination of their vacations.
The years have gone by and the secret has gotten out, other discerning travellers have learned about these islands so you will not be totaly alone. The Koufonisia have just (quietly) entered the tourist list.
However, the old way is still apparent in many aspects of the people of the island, the magic and the positive energy is still there, and it still makes people feel lucky to have discovered this secret paradise on the Cyclades islands.
There are more ways then ever to get to Koufonissi. There are connections from Piraeus every other day. There is also a fast boat from Mykonos and Santorini every other day. Every day there is the Samos Flying Dolphin hydrofoil boat and Express Skopelitis which is a direct connection from Naxos.
It is still an island for those willing to make that extra bit of effort to discover a corner that it still mostly hidden form the tourist world.
