This traditional Hydra house with its own pool is located centrally above the port and offers stunning sea views from its terraces.
This exceptional property comprises three integrated sections which afford privacy if needed. The rooms have been furnished sympathetically and tastefully and fit in well to the general island feel.
The main area of the house has a large living room equipped with a TV and DVD and includes a dining area and a well equipped kitchen. An internal stairway takes you up to the top of the house where you will find the master bedroom. If you feel the need, there is an office area with broadband internet access.
This level is airconditioned. The rest of the house is not.
One wing of the house has a separate entrance. This two bedroomed guest area has its own kitchenette and bathroom.
Terraces lead off from various rooms where there are views of Hydra Harbour out to the sea from one side of the property and the mainly residential area of Kamini and the sea from the other.
The layout of the terraces ensures that they all have sea views. The visitor will enjoy dicovering the terraces on the various levels of the house as well as its numerous rooms. Plants of various types have been planted in pots on the terraces thus complemeting the stone architecture and creating a pleasant environment to sit out in.
On one of the terraces, under a covered, shady area is an outdoor living area in typical Greek tradition where most family life is carried out. This area has a day-bed and a dining table that seats 10 where you can enjoy your surroundings to the full.
The long, narrow swimming pool, located on the lower terrace was designed to allow the visitor to swim lengths while fitting in with the aesthetic of the property.
Should you feel tempted to leave the house, there are plenty of places to eat and drink. One can also visit galleries, museums and churches or simply explore the island on donkey, taxi boat or by foot as there are no motorised vehicles on Hydra.
Please note that families with young children need to have in mind the terraces and the swimming pool, and that your childrens' safety is your responsibility.
This charming Saronic island which is home to a plethora of artists means that Hydra has the feel of a tourist resort (especially as you enter the port area), as well as an artistic community and a traditional Greek island all at once.
As no cars are allowed, exploring is done on foot or by donkey along the terreced steps in the town area or earthen tracks and terraces as you leave the the town and move ever higher.
As you wander around Hydra town and Kamini (the area furthest from Hydra Harbour which is mostly resisdential) you may feel transported back to another time or very much in the 21st century depending or where you find yourself.
Higher up in the town, common sounds are donkeys' brays, cockerels' cries or the clip-clop of the donkeys' hooves on the cobbled lanes and terraces.
The town offers traditional island and Venetian architecture. It has charming churches and monasteries and a stunning landscape well worth seeing up close.
There are beaches and places to swim within walking distance or by water taxi.
