This magnificent group of islands, with a wonderful climate and constant temperature throughout the year, and splendid fine sandy beaches, consists of 7 larger islands (Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife, La Palma, Gomera, Hierro) and a few smaller ones (Alegranza, Graciosa, Montana Clara, Roque del Este, Roque del Oeste und Lobos).

Surprisingly, the landscape of each island is radically different to the others.

Atlantic breezes provide perfect windsurfing conditions, and there are some first class golf courses in the Canaries.

Fuerteventura

The semi-desert Island of Fuerteventura lies around 100km off the West coast of Africa (near the border of Morocco and Western Sahara). Like the other islands in the group, Fuerteventura enjoys a near-perfect climate with average monthly temperatures ranging from 17°C in January to 25°C in August, making it an incredibly popular holiday destination.

Fuerteventura is the second-largest Canary Island after Tenerife. The unforgiving barren and arid interior of the island shares much with it's African neighbours of Morroco and the Western Sahara including sparse rainfall, rocky-desert landscapes (the temperature of these rocks can reach 67°C on a hot day!) and simple flat-roofed white-washed villages.

Fuerteventura is famous for its beaches, with miles of beautiful white and golden sand. Tourism is a relatively recent phenomenon on the island, but even so there is a well developed infrastructure with Golf Courses, a Zoo, a Water Park and Marine Excursions.

The Atlantic swell and constant breezes make the island an ideal spot for Surfing, Windsurfing and Kite Surfing.

Big Game Fishing and Diving are also popular.

If you just want to take it easy, then those miles of white sandy beaches make the perfect getaway, even in the peak season you should be able to find a relatively secluded spot for yourself!
