Apartment on a quiet cobbled lane

When you imagine a perfect Greek island Hydra is it.
Narrow cobbled lanes to get lost in. Unexpected chic shops round corners. Quality locally served tavernas. Busy and quiet bars. Sea front cafes. Swimming in crystal clear waters. Goat tracks. Coastal walks. Deserted hills. Pine forests. Deserted bays. Busy water sports facilities. Friendly locals. Day trips to other islands: Spetses, Poros, Dokos, Aegina, Agistri. Sunshine, shade and donkeys. Old windmills. A man who keeps Ostriches! A bearded long haired ox of an old man who makes a living driving to untangle anchors. Painters with easels. Local freshly baked bread. Local wine. Smiles....
Hydra is easily accessible from Athens - just an hour and a half on the hydrofoil. The Peloponnese and the ancient sites of Mycenae and Epidavros are close by.
Hydra Hideaway Studio encompasses all this just 200 meters from the sea.
The island of Hydra is a quiet paradise.
The large village of Hydra is nestled around the port in the form of a natural amphitheatre. Layers of tiled roofs gradually climb the hills around the bay so each house has a stunning view and each can be seen.
The island attracts a discerning population who enjoy the narrow white washed streets and the excellent cuisine.
Small designer jewellery shops jostle with cafes on the water front and galleries and designer clothes shops are hidden in unexpected corners.
But the most unique aspect of Hydra is that there are no cars, no motorbikes and no buses. The only form of transport is donkey and so the pace of life on Hydra has slowed down to a relaxing dreamy level.
It is so tranquil and peaceful that it is almost surprising to find the nightlife that sparkles around the port in the evening.
Large and small boats search for berths in the port at the weekend and the comings and goings and tangling of anchors provide the onlooker with plenty of amusement.

Bill and I both thank you for your help in arranging our trip to Greece in June. We had a wonderful time, and we were captivated by Hydra. Mary's apartment was perfect for us, and our time there went much too quickly. The hotel in Athens was a good choice, as well. It was clean, friendly, close to the Acropolis, and inexpensive. We appreciate your suggesting that. I was impressed by your professionalism and warmth in responding to all our questions and helping with our arrangements. - Karen DeLay , UK
